ABOUT THE SHOW

“Are the holidays not supposed to be fun, or is Pemberley too grand a place for good cheer?”

Two years after the events of Pride and Prejudice, the newlywed Darcy’s celebrate on the ground floor of the Pemberley estate. Meanwhile below them, the less glamorous work of the Pemberley servants is interrupted by an uninvited guest: George Wickham. Through witty twists and turns, this play by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon breaks down the barrier of class at Pemberley, as they all confide in one another to handle the “despicable” Mr. Wickham.

REVIEWS

“A lovely holiday concoction: melt in your mouth, with just a touch of spice.”
—Talkin' Broadway

“The genius of Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon, in exploring Austen’s world, is to explicitly articulate what the books more elliptically imply: for these 19th-century women, beyond security lay the more fundamental dream of liberty. This is world-class theatrical art.”
—City Pages Minneapolis
